I’m backkkkk…I wanted to share with you some of the fabulous colored moissanite that we can source now. We can get any shape or size in all of the colors shown in the pics above and below. For starters, feast your eyes on this delightful pear shape in a medium shade of teal/blue green. We can also source lab created sapphires that are just spectacular, and they are a bit less expensive than moissanite. Same deal, any shape/any size for those as well. Sapphires paired with colorless moissanite and diamonds is my absolute fav gemstone combo.
Speaking of sapphires, check out these French cut lab grown sapphs – they are adorable. And the ring they are being set in (as we speak) is this gorgeous custom design we did recently, named Clara. It’ll have an Old European cut center, those sexy French cuts, and diamonds. Yum.
The best part about the new sapphires, along with our colorless moissanite, is that we can get any shape/any size now, so the only limitations you have are your imagination! Hmmm. That was cheesy. Imma roll with it though. 😉 We cut these huge rose cut sapphire cushions for a jeweler and they came out amazing. Been dreaming about them ever since. (Mama needs one, me thinks.)
For many years the only colored moissanite available was a medium to dark green and occasionally yellow. There were a few other colors available – but those were coated on the pavilion, and the coating scratched off quite easily. We’ve never carried coated moissanite for that reason. All of the colors that we can get now are a solid (permanent) color throughout.
At the lab, they leak argon into the reactor to create gray boules, and nitrogen for green. A boule is the hockey puck looking thang in the photo – that is how moissanite crystal grows in the reactor, into a disk like shape, and then they are cut down into triangular preforms. Then the gems are faceted on a lapidary wheel. Pretty cool process. We have some preforms in our stash, and a super talented gemstone cutter friend of ours is going to have us to his shop for mimosas and a lapidary lesson. Can’t wait!
Moissanite makes a killer alternative to mined green emeralds – they are far less expensive, and much harder – mined emeralds are not idea for a daily wear ring. Natural emeralds usually have a fair number of inclusions, unless you want to spend a bloody fortune for a high end stone.
Our greys are gorgeous too. One of my fav. personal pieces is our Atlas ring, with a killer cool kite shaped moissanite center, surrounded by diamond melee. We can also do a version with moissanite melee, to save you a few sheckles. (Melee is the industry term for tiny ass round gemstones.) And here are a few more pieces with our gray ZAYA Moissanite(r) in them.
So, until next time – tag, you’re it! Comment below your fav color and shape, I’m game for having some new drool-worthy colored moissanite cut, to share on social – let me know what you guys would like to see, and I’ll see what I can do. *insert evil grin*

This blog post was written many, many moons ago. We carried Supernova for several years, they had very pretty stones and the company is owned by a lovely family in Australia. That said, we ended up phasing them out for several reasons. The shipping from AU to the US was quite steep, especially as often as we were ordering them. And they don't have a warranty, I find our customers prefer moissanite that comes with a warranty. We were (and still are) honored to be their first ever worldwide retailer, and we truly enjoyed selling them while we did.
What is a SUPERNOVA Moissanite? The SUPERNOVA is a new moissanite available now, and we are SUPER excited (see what I did there?) to be the first retailer on the planet to sell them! They are gorgeous, and are being cut in a huge array of sizes. Plus, we can also get custom cuts, so if you were interested in, say, a 12 carat emerald cut let us know, we gotcha covered.
You'll see many new types of moissanite coming to market this year and into the future - it's likely going to get very confusing for all of us. We have done the research and chosen the best of the best moissanite to carry in our shops, so all of the moissanite brands we sell are absolutely tops, in quality, clarity and color.
The SUPERNOVA is colorless, meaning they are D-F in color. Moissanite is a very durable material for a man-made stone, at 9.25 on the mohs hardness scale. That makes them harder than a sapphire or ruby, and second only to diamond, so these stones will stand up to a lifetime of adventures. Or chillin' out, if that is more your thang. They have excellent clarity - their cuts were all developed by an engineer at Moissanite International, so you know they are spot on.
The SUPERNOVA moissanite comes in a huge range of cuts(shapes) and sizes - if you'd like a funky anniversary band with a bunch of pear cuts, a delicious but not too big 3 carat oval, or a whopping 9 carat emerald cut, we've got all those, and more. If you want a custom cut stone in a size we don't typically offer, let us know, we can do that, too. Like twenty carats. Ain't no joke.
As new moissanites continue to flood the market, you'll find pricing will be all over the place - a higher price does not necessarily mean higher quality. Some pricing examples: a SUPERNOVA 1 carat round will run ya $440, and a 2 carat round $925, 3 carat is $1,410. The fancy cuts are a bit higher but still a fab price, especially when compared to a diamond. A 2 carat cushion cut will run $1,440, a 2.46 carat emerald cut $1,660, a 2.7 carat asscher $1,520.
Let's price out a monster, shall we? A 7 carat oval will run $5,490. To compare, a 5 carat H color, SI1 oval cut diamond - that's much lower color and clarity than the SUPERNOVA - would run around $120,000. You know, give or take. So $24,000 PER CARAT. Alrighty then.
The SUPERNOVA hails from down unda, and they are manufactured by Moissanite International. The folks who developed these beautiful stones have been selling moissanite for many years, so they know their stuff. They are the only manufacturer that has all the magic happening under one roof - they formulate their own pure Silicon Carbide powder, grow the material, cut the rough and then the jewels with 65 on-site cutters. Pretty awesome. They will only be selling these stones to the trade - meaning you can purchase them through us here at JHD, or if you happen to swing by Sydney, Australia, you can visit their flagship retail store. G'day!
We will be adding all kinds of beautiful rings, earrings and other bits featuring the SUPERNOVA in the coming months. Any of our current pieces can also be set with them. For the short term, turnaround time is longer for a SUPERNOVA moissanite engagement ring or pendant. They are working hard and cutting stones like mad, to increase their stockpile of gems. Our typical engagement ring turnaround is 4-6 weeks, for a SUPERNOVA ring, it will be closer to 8, at least for the short term. The nice thing is, once they pack up and ship us a parcel, it arrives within 3-4 days! We feel these beauties are worth the wait.
Also, keep an eye out for several (rather awesome) giveaways featuring our beautiful jewelry, with the new SUPERNOVA moissanite.
These are exciting times in the world of moissanite! And overwhelming. Stick with us, we'll sort it out together.

Oh man, 2016 was a wild ride. At the end of each year, I like to take stock of things, personally and professionally, while catching up with friends, attending holiday parties where people still think it's ok to wear an ugly Christmas sweater - good Lord people for all that is holy please stop doing this - and shopping online to avoid the crowds.
My fam and I also decided it was time to pick up and move to a fab new house we found last summer, so we are knee deep in open houses, home inspections and all of the joy that selling your house and buying another brings, right at Christmas and in the middle of our holiday rush. Not my best idea, but it'll all be worth it in the end, right? Please tell me moving in my mid-ahem-40's wasn't a bad idea and that I'll have a mortgage until I'm OMG WHAT HAVE WE DONE.
But, I gotta tell ya, even with all this chaos I'm actually excited for the new digs, it's a great space for entertaining, and we plan to host small wine-soaked jewelry parties, to teach people about moissanite and show off the different brands we carry. We may even have some special guest appearances. After we are all done ogling stones, then we can do a little hot tubbing, as soon as I figure out how to thoroughly sanitize someone else's hot tub. Ewwww.
Holidays are challenging for me at times with my parents gone, it's difficult watching our kids grow up without my mom and dad around to cheer them on, straighten them out, or tell crazy stories about me growing up. (although on my final point, that's likely a good thing.) So we tell stories about them instead, like the way my dad used to play pranks on my mom, which totally pissed her off every damn time, like short-sheeting the bed. (I definitely inherited the "do not play tricks on me/sneak up on me cuz it's not funny and I'll kick your ass gene".) She always got him back somehow, for example, by teaching our dog to sit in front of the console TV and howl during football games. Yup, good times.
Now, back to business. Read on to find out where we've been, and where we are going. I'm feelin' like 2017 is going to be an absolutely epic year, amiright?
Let's brag a bit, shall we? I've been making jewelry for almost 10 years, and just 2 years ago I was selling mostly handmade gold wedding bands, some sterling bands and hand-stamped jewelry, with a smattering of gems tossed in. Fast forward to this year...now we have transitioned over to selling custom-designed moissanite and diamond engagement rings, wedding bands, stud earrings and kick ass pendants. Did you see our new Sasha pendant? People, seriously, it's the perfect layering piece. Anyhoo, sales have grown over 850% in 3 years. Pretty amazing, really. I've hired the fabulous Colleen Waltman as our takes-no-prisoners Director of Ops, and next year we plan to add additional staff as well. Who Colleen will train cuz she is funny as hell and I want to keep the hilarious vibe we've got going on here. If you want to work for me you need to have a foul mouth, raunchy sense of humor, quick wit, wicked attention to detail and a serious passion for moissanite. And do not call me Boss, that freaks me out.
We started 2016 with one shape available in the NEO, a near colorless ideal cut round. It was pretty, but not amazing*. Our NEO guys made several rounds of tweaks to that cut earlier this year, AND then went and developed a 2nd round cut to boot. Both are gorgeous, so we now have our diamond cut round and the round brilliant. I liked the diamond cut round so much, I put a 4.2 carat monster in my new Raven engagement ring.
They then expanded their line to include near colorless and also colorless cushions, emerald cuts, ovals, princess cuts, radiants, hearts, trillions, half moons and more. Something to note, the NEO is so well cut, they face up whiter than a typical near colorless stone. Check out Instagram to see what I mean, people are always asking me if the NEOs I'm posting are colorless, and in most cases, they aren't. So basically in less than a year we went from having pretty rounds in limited sizes to a full line of beautiful stones, all with great pricing and the best moissanite warranty available.
Look for more colorless NEOs in the new year, along with expanded sizes. Rumor has it we'll have a NEO asscher in the not too distant future, as well as additional sizes in their beautiful princess cut, I have a 1 carat sample here, and it's a sexy lil thang.
*Keep in mind many of the older NEO reviews you read on the boards are talking about the first gen NEOs. All the NEOs we are selling now kick ass.
Ya'll may have heard some rumors about a new moissanite in town, called the ZAYA Moissanite®. It's all true, bitches! Colleen and I are rolling out our own line of moissanite that we are sourcing ourselves - we evaluated piles of beautiful stones and decided on a manufacturer that works with several experienced cutting houses - they'll even fine tune cuts for us if we aren't happy. Amada is all specialty cuts to fill in around our flagship NEO moissanite line, and we can get you anything your sweet lil heart desires. ZAYA Moissanite® comes in both near colorless and colorless options.
Imagine this if you will: drool-worthy elongated cushions in 2 different cuts of pillowy deliciousness, long narrow emerald cuts that are so frickin' gorgeous you may pass out when you see one, elegant Old Mine Cut cushions, Old European Cut rounds, quirky cuts like trapezoids, wider pears and all kinds of other delectable shapes. They come with a limited lifetime warranty. You'll find pricing is higher than on our other stones, but it's cuz they are special(ty) cut. I'm working on the website, which will have details on the stones, warranty information and such, but in the meantime, they are available for purchase - just shoot us an email or Etsy convo for more information. As we get yummy new cuts in, you'll find them first on Instagram.

So you've found your bae, and want to start shopping for a bit of bling to make it official. Typically one of the first questions that pops to mind is, "how many carats?" First instinct is to think, well, bigger is always better. But in the case of moissanite, we find our clients want to balance a big delicious stone that will garner them some attention, while making sure it's still believable. By believable, we mean that ya'll want it to pass for a diamond, and may or may not tell the world that it's not. And we are cool with that, yo. I'm not gonna tell ya how to live your life.
We also find that many customers base their ideal carat size off of popular carat sizes where they live. I've had people tell me that going anywhere near 1 carat will be a dead giveaway that it's not legit where they live, others have mentioned around 3 carats is average, and we've heard that in Germany, from one sweet client of ours, that the average carat size is 7-9. Yes, you read that correctly, 7 carats is considered a wee small engagement ring. We are actually working to source a gorgeous 10 carat NEO diamond cut or round brilliant for her, as the 7.8 carat (also known as My Precious) wasn't quite juicy enough. Oh, and our NEO guy mentioned to me a few years ago that they often sell huge stones overseas, and 10-15 carats is not uncommon. #HolyShitThatsHuge #ThatsWhatSheSaid
I wonder how heavy a 15 carat moissanite is? That 7.8 carat NEO has some pretty decent weight to it. Would your arm get tired lugging that 15 carat around? I'm thinking we should get one and test it out, but I'm curious if my left arm will be all swole from sporting that monster 'round town.
We often have clients that come to us and say they want a 1.75 carat, not 1.5, or 2 carat. Which is great, and we'd love to oblige, but round moissanite isn't typically cut in that carat size. Did you realize the difference in size between a 1.5 carat and a 2 carat is one half of a millimeter? 7.5mm vs 8mm. Do ya'll remember the metric system from school? I basically didn't until I got in this biz, and I gotta tell ya, it's SO much easier than the stupid-ass standard measurement system we use here in the U.S., with inches and feet and shit. Tell me again how much 3/8" is? Gah. Anyhoo, a half of a millimeter is so freaking small, you can barely see it.
Average carat size we sell is 2 carats, and round is the most popular cut. Cushion cuts take 2nd place.
Fluff It Up: A round 6-prong setting will make your stone look a little bit larger than it actually is.
Get you mind outta the gutter, girl, we are still talkin' about jewelry. What we suggest, if you are on the fence about carat size, is to go with the larger. (shocking advice coming from a jeweler, eh?) But legit - the reason is - we've never had anyone come back to us and say, "oh hell, I shoulda gotten the smaller one." Not one.
Below you'll see photos I've taken of various carat shapes and sizes on my hand. We can also refer to this section of the post as "How Many Colors Does Jen's Hand Come In?"
My hand really does come in a lot of colors, doesn't it? I've got poor circulation, so you never know if we'll have a lovely pale ivory, blue-ish gray, or a bold red. (watch out in the winter if I sneak up on ya, my hands are icy and I'm likely to use them as a weapon.)
What size have YOU been dreaming about? Carat size, people, c'mon now. 😉 Tell us in the comments!
June 21, 2022
We recently sat down with Guy Stimpson, the brand and trademark owner of the NEO Moissanite, to learn more about him and his delicious gems.
J Hollywood Designs has been selling the NEO since it was first rolled out in the fall of 2015, and prior to that Guy and his team were our primary source for Charles & Colvard moissanite for several years, so we were one of the first jewelers to find out about the NEO coming onto the scene. “I’ve been at this since I was 22,” Guy said. “I’ve been waiting for the patent to end for many years.” His goal is to create a “new standard” in the moissanite business. He's already turned moissanite warranties on their head - the Moissanite NEO warranty is the most comprehensive warranty available on the market today - not only does it cover clouding and color changes in your stone, it covers chipping and scratches. Yup, good stuff right there.
Guy was born in Peterborough, England, and moved with his family to the U.S. when he was 14 years old. He traveled back to England to attend the University of Hertfordshire in Hatfield, England and studied Economics. He later returned to the U.S. and became one of the first salespeople for Charles & Colvard at the ripe young age of 21. He then went on to become their top European sales rep. #BadAss After 3 years traveling the globe teaching precious and semi-precious gemstone dealers, gem-cutting houses, chain and independent retail jewelers about moissanite; Guy was, and still is considered one of the top moissanite experts in the world. #MajorGemNerd
"We have been working on the process for a more beautiful whiter colored moissanite for a long time now. After many trials and with a unique; hyper-extensive cut, color and clarity quality control system (good grief that's a mouthful), we have conclusively proven that the NEO is the best option for 'true colorless' moissanite worldwide."
"The NEO Moissanite; like the Forever One by Charles & Colvard, is a 4H (SiC) crystalline structure, it is the whitest raw silicon carbide poly-type, allowing for true D, E, F, G & H colorless moissanite production. The NEO has been sectioned into two categories, True G-H (near colorless) and True E-F (colorless)."
(Mm-kay, did ya'll get that? Yikes. #MoissaniteNerd)
Guy told us during our chat, "One of the most fascinating aspects of the NEO 4H (SiC) poly-type is that it can be graded using the diamond grading scale. Never before has this been possible with moissanite, as prior to the patent expiration 6H (SiC) poly-types like the Forever Classic and Forever Brilliant were saturated with green and yellow color hues."
"The 4H NEO Moissanite will not change color under heat. The 6H Moissanite by Charles & Colvard will turn a bright yellow upon heating."
(So you know now I'm going to get out my biggest torch and light one of those suckers up.)
"With the NEO, we have gone a step further than all of our competition by creating a line of True G-H Color NEO moissanite at a lower cost-per-carat than the Forever One moissanite (G-H color), Forever Brilliant moissanite (J-K color) or the Classic moissanite (L-M color)."
"And, unlike our competition, we do not use confusing cost-per-carat sliding scale pricing model."
Shhhhhh...Guy went on to share a secret with us about the NEO and how they are created...
"The NEO starts out as a seed crystal suspended inside a vacuum sealed chamber. Intense heat and high pressure is applied. Within 3-12 weeks the raw crystal is fully grown; cylindrical in shape, 3-4 inches in diameter and 5-6 inches from top to bottom. (This crystal is called a boule, and looks like a funky tall hockey puck.) Once removed from the reactor the raw crystal is turned on its side and laser cut into wafers, and then laser cut again into preforms*. Once all of the preforms are completed, they are sent to the cutting house where they are faceted then polished.
"The last step prior to going through our hyper extensive in-house quality control, is a special and vital annealing process. This process repairs any broken bonds from the raw crystal growth and creates the whitest possible finished product."
Isn't it wild that these crazy lookin' triangles end up as gorgeous gemstones?
So my loves, there ya go. In our opinion, the NEO Moissanite is a no-brainer. Their outstanding cuts were developed by Guy, our #MoissaniteMan - with his expansive moissanite knowledge, their competitive pricing, that ridiculous warranty - AND our gorgeous designs, you can't possibly shop anywhere else.
We will also price match, or try damn hard to, so as always, you can reach us via email or pop by our Etsy shop with any questions, feedback or just to tell us you are girl crushing on us. *grin* (I've heard that twice in the last week!)
We FINALLY nabbed a photo of the elusive Guy. I was hoping for a shot of him at his desk, louping stones, with NEO moissanite spilling everywhere, but this will have to do. In June 2017, my staff and I were all in Las Vegas for the JCK Vegas gem show, and we met up with some of our vendors, including Guy and his right hand man, Steve. Pic is fuzzy since it may or may not have been taken in a nightclub. 😉
March 28, 2022
Let's start out with a brief lesson in color grading moissanite (I know, I hear ya, snooze, but bear with me), and then we'll get into which color gemstone is right for you.
Here’s a breakdown of the primary color ranges and the corresponding letter grades:
White As All Hell: D, E, F
Almost As White As All Hell: G, H, I, J
Wee Smidge of Yellow: K, L, M
Smidge More Yellow: N, O, P, Q, R, S
Yellow Ass Stones: S-Z
Back in the day, moissanite was around a K-M in color, and it looked even warmer in dim lighting. In some lighting they even looked canary yellow or green! With the newer 4H crystalline polytype available (#GemNerd), now we are carrying colorless and near colorless moissanite that will blow your frickin' mind. Even D color moissanite is available now.
Here is a comparison video from Instagram, with a colorless moissanite compared to a near colorless one. Both beautiful, quite similar in color, hmm? I bet you thought an D-E-F color stone would look very different than a G-H-I color.
I'll bet, when you think of a colorless moissanite compared to a near colorless moissanite, (or diamond, as they are graded in the same way) they must look fairly different, amiright? I mean, it should be easy to see the difference between an F color stone right next to a G, especially since F is considered colorless, and G is near colorless. Check out the video just above, 3 of the stones are colorless, and one is near colorless. Can you tell the difference? #howaboutnope
The difference in color between an D-E-F colored moissanite compared to a G-H-I colored one is much smaller than most people realize. Which one is better? Well, that depends on you. Like, just as some women love a good man bun, and others just don't dig it, it's really all about how YOU feel. When it comes to what color moissanite you should choose, beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder. Some people prefer a D color moissanite because they feel it's more beautiful. Others like a warmer stone, for it's old world feel, like a vintage cut diamond. There really is no right or wrong answer.
Feel free to ask us any questions you may have on stone color below! We are here to help you zero in on your dream stone. Or two. We are also down with it if you'd like 4, or more...
And thus, we conclude our fascinating lesson on colorless vs near colorless moissanite. #ManBun
March 28, 2022
More exciting news, my loves! We received word last week from the NEO moissanite dudes (#moissaniteman) that the COLORLESS NEO IS HERE. Mm-hmm, that's right. Not in a large range of sizes yet, but that's cool! We are only going up from here.
There are mostly rounds, in a range from 4mm up to 9mm. In English, those are sizes from .23 carat up to 2.7 carats. There are some smallish cushion cuts in sizes from .57 carats up to 1.2 carats (hello cushion cut earrings!), one size of wee little hearts, and a couple of colorless NEO trillion cuts, which are a slightly rounded triangle, see photo below. Trillions make for a great side stone on either side of a round, cushion or emerald cut.
NEO moissanite is one of the 2 brands of moissanite we carry. They have the most comprehensive warranty of the bunch, and are beautiful. If you are fond of cushion cuts, and seriously, who isn't, you'll want to check out this video of a cushion cut NEO moissanite next to a diamond.
Keep in mind, with all of the gem photos we share, the lighting during the shoot, the background, and your monitor settings all play into how the stones look in each photo or video. See how the trillion cut photo below looks so different than the cushions? The trillion was shot at a trade show in Las Vegas while Colleen and I were hanging with #moissaniteman, the lighting was completely different, so the stone looks different. But, it also shows you how moissanite, and all stones to be honest, behave in varied lighting. That's why we do videos and photos on Instagram with so many different settings. We are the engagement ring goddesses, and we shall teach you all things moissanite...
March 15, 2022
There are so many cool diamond alternatives available now, and we will see more coming to market this year. Clients are asking us on a daily basis, which stone is the best? Which one is most diamond-like? Is ZAYA Moissanite® the best diamond alternative? Or a NEO moissanite? How will I decide which is best for me?
With spending more time evaluating each type of stone over the last few weeks, (some of which we've been familiar with for years) we have discovered that there is no one brand of stone that is always better overall than the others. Answer a few easy questions for us, and we can steer you to the best stone for you. All of the stones we sell are incredibly diamond-like, and will fool nearly anyone (remind me to tell you the story about the diamond dealers in Cancun). And seriously, some of it truly is just personal preference.
What is your fav cut (shape)?
Do you have a color preference...colorless? Gray, teal, black?
What is the carat size of your dreams?
Sparkle bomb vs most diamond-like? Both?!
J Hollywood Designs is breaking boundaries - we are working directly with the manufacturer to source you a line of gorgeous specialty cut moissanite, the ZAYA Moissanite. Formerly known as the AMADA Moissanite, read more about the name change, 'tis a rather interesting story. #knickers ZAYA comes in both colorless (E-F color) as well as some really cool colors - gray, green, teal, yellow and black.
We can legit cut any shape/any size for you in our ZAYA brand moissanite. Some of the delicious shapes we are offering - elongated cushions and emeralds, Old European cut rounds, Old Mine cut cushions, asschers, trapezoids, kite shapes, diamond shapes (as in the actual shape of a diamond from the side view), you name it.
ZAYA moissanite is made from silicon carbide, or SiC. #GemNerd They are harder than sapphires or rubies, at 9.25 on the Mohs hardness scale, second only to diamond. Moissanite is a gem unto itself, it is not a fake diamond or a coated stone, and with beauty of them and the fab price, how could you resist? (You can't, trust me.) Add in the fact that they are conflict-free and thousands less than a diamond, well, it really seems like a no-brainer.
These beauties arrived on the scene in October of 2015. They have made great strides with their cut (cut is key, my friends), and now have a full line of shapes and sizes that are just amazing.
The NEO is the most affordable stone we sell, they have a cool ass name, and come with a comprehensive warranty.

Last weekend Colleen (our kick-ass new Director of Ops) and I headed to Las Vegas, for the JCK Vegas gem show. It was our first time at this show, and her first time in Vegas. To say we had fun is a serious understatement. Now that we've returned and have almost recovered, we wanted to update everyone on the new stones and cuts that we discovered. OMG, the whole thing nearly blew our minds. Awesome new stones, diamonds and gems everywhere, TOOLS, oh the tools. Bench jewelers have a thing for tools. (Shh, I actually have more than most guys. lol)
Before I get sidetracked talking about $60 hammers and polishing bits...this is just a quick update on the sexy new stones we found, and then in about a month we plan to roll out a comprehensive stone summary, with all the details you could possibly want (and some you probably don't), to help you decide what diamond alternative is right for you.
First off, we met with Guy Stimpson, our resident moissanite expert and all around good fella, and his right-hand man Steve (who has excellent taste in Fedoras), to check out the new NEO shapes available. The round NEO came out in August 2015. These stones are lookin' sweet! They've been working on fine-tuning their cut - so the NEOs I shared last year are pretty, but the new ones are much more delicious. We checked out rounds, cushions, trillion cuts and others, and they are sending us samples of their stones within the month, so we can dig in and mess around with them. The stones are G-H in color, they are working on E-F color. We will share videos and more info as we get it.
Here is a bit from the NEO website. - "The NEO is a 4H crystalline polytype, allowing for the cleanest and purest colorless rough crystal growth. The NEO outperforms the 6H polytype currently used in the market today." So, in English - lol - the NEO doesn't go as flat in dimmer lighting, so they aren't as moody as some moissanite. Learn more here. These stones are beautiful, and I'm excited to get my hands on some to do some videos and share them with you. AND, even better, the price on the NEO is excellent. Look for NEO pieces posted in both of our shops coming soon.
At long last, Charles & Colvard has rolled out a beautiful new cut in their Forever One line of moissanite - the asscher, she's quite the beaut! They are available in 3 carat sizes - 1.3, 2.21, and 3.14.
They were having trouble cutting Forever One emeralds, the material still retained some body color, so they attacked the asscher cut instead, and it came out beautifully! These are posted in my Etsy shop as loose stones for now, and we will be whipping up some delicious rings with them in the near future.
Viva Las Vegas!
March 14, 2022
Feast your eyes on this gorgeous asscher cut Forever One moissanite by Charles & Colvard. They will be unveiling this brand new step cut stone in early June at the International Jewelry Show in Las Vegas - JCK Vegas.
Colleen Waltman, our new Director of Operations and I will be there for the unveiling! C&C will also be introducing more shapes and sizes of their colorless Forever One Moissanite. Yeah baby! We'll be there stalking these juicy gems for you. And maybe one for us. Or two.
March 14, 2022
What is a NEO moissanite? Ok people, listen up. These are brand new, as in, just came available to us last week! They are rumored to be quite awesome, and we'll have one mid-week to check out. Look for a video on Instagram, as when it arrives that's the first thing I'll do. This new stone is available now because the patent for manufacturing and selling moissanite expired in August 2015. This is the first moissanite alternative I've seen since that happened, so you may see others coming to market soon as well. They are a product of Wholesale Moissanite. The mastermind behind the NEO, Guy Stimpson worked for Charles & Colvard in the early days. He was one of their first salespeople, and went on to become their top European rep. He is our mad scientist of moissanite, and developed all of the cuts for the NEO.
I haven't seen one in person yet, but here is what I know:
- I was told they don't have the color change or go "flat" in dimmer lighting - very intriguing.
- A more comprehensive warranty that covers clouding, color change and damage to the stone.
- Pricing is lower than Forever One moissanite, so they are being priced fairly.
Post your questions below in the comments, we are happy to answer them.

People, listen up! There is a new gem in town, well, in my town, and it's called Amora Gem. It's also man-made like moissanite, gorgeous and fiery, and ridiculously affordable compared to diamonds. They are graded just like moissanite and diamonds.
